Counselling and Resilience Education Program

The Counselling And Resilience Education (CARE) Program, is a pro-bono initiative dedicated to supporting youth aged 18-25 in the South Vancouver Island area. It is designed for young people who have aged out of care, have experience in alternate education schools, or who have aged out of services from Child and Youth Mental Health. We are passionate about working with young people who have experienced challenges are committed to providing the necessary support and guidance for a smoother transition into adulthood.

About the Program:

Our Counselling and Resilience Education (CARE) Program offers a range of services designed to build resilience, foster personal growth, and support mental health. The program includes:

Individual Counselling Sessions

Personalized monthly one-on-one sessions with experienced counsellors to address specific mental health needs, life challenges, and personal goals. These sessions offer a safe and confidential space to explore personal issues, develop coping strategies, and work towards achieving emotional well-being.


 Youth Employment Support

Assistance in navigating the job market and securing meaningful employment. This could include: guidance in identifying career interests and finding job opportunities that align with individual skills and goals, support in crafting effective resumes and preparing for job interviews, and practical advice and training to ensure readiness for the workplace, covering aspects like professional communication, time management, and workplace etiquette.


Advocacy and Support

Dedicated assistance in navigating complex systems related to mental health, education, and employment. This includes providing support in understanding and accessing community resources, legal rights, and available services. Our team is committed to advocating for the individual’s needs and ensuring they receive the necessary support.
 

Post-Secondary Training Planning and Support

Comprehensive guidance for individuals looking to pursue post-secondary education. This includes assistance in selecting appropriate courses and programs, understanding admission requirements, and exploring financial aid options. Our support is tailored to help individuals successfully transition to post-secondary education and achieve their academic goals.
 

Career Guidance and Planning

Assistance in exploring career options, educational pathways, and job search strategies. Our approach includes career assessments, resume and cover letter writing support, interview preparation, and networking tips. We aim to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their career paths and support them in achieving their professional aspirations.
 
Throughout our time together we will strive to be inclusive, empathetic, and empowering. We combine evidence-based counselling methods with practical skills training to provide you with the support youth deserve. Our team is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where youth feel heard, understood, and motivated to overcome their challenges.


Eligibility

The program is open to those who are currently unable to afford or access mental health support and who are either:

  • Former Youth in Care (CYIC)

  • Former Alternate Education students

  • Former BC Child and Youth Mental Health Clients
